Santa Monica Playhouse has been providing Theatre/Drama Badge activities for Girl and Boy Scouts and theatre experiences for scouts of all ages for over thirty-five years. The Playhouse, voted “Best Children’s Theatre in Los Angeles” by LA MAGAZINE, LA PARENT, LA TIMES MAGAZINE and DAILY VARIETY, is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with two special programs:

"What an excellent experience for our Brownie troop! It's hard to imagine what would keep 20 second grade girls entertained and engaged for two hours but this workshop did the trick! THE PLAY-GOERS’ EXPERIENCE

In this exciting weekend activity, young people come to the Santa Monica Playhouse theatre arts complex, where they see an age-appropriate professional musical production presented by the award-winning Actors Repertory Theatre and the Young Professionals' Theatre, the city's oldest resident professional performing arts companies. After the show, the young people are given a back-stage tour and participate in a discussion with the performers and technical crew, where they can ask questions and learn more about theatre as a craft, as a career, and as an instrument for social change.

Price: $10.50 per child’s ticket; $12.50 for adults (tour and discussion included)

Show Time: every Saturday and Sunday at 12:30 and 3:00pm (call for reservations & show listing)

PLAY-MAKERS THEATRE ADVENTURE

In this hands-on theatre activity, participants spend two hours with a professional theatre director, learning about the craft of theatre, playing theatre games and drama exercises, and creating their own mini-play. The play, crafted on the spot and based on their personal feelings about the world and their community, is performed by the participants in one of the three Playhouse performances spaces at the end of the session. Video taping of the performance is welcomed.

Price: $250 for up to 20 participants ($15.00 for each additional participant) (includes complimentary refreshments)

Time: Fridays 4:00 to 6:00pm (other times are available upon request)

Santa Monica Playhouse, a not-for-profit 501 (c) 3 educational corporation founded in 1960, provides exciting and entertaining dramatic and comedic, classic and contemporary live theatrical productions, Family Theatre musicals, birthday and tea parties, year-round and summer theatre workshops and educational programming for young people, teens and adults, create-a-play classes and Mommy and Me events for pre-schoolers, daytime and after school enrichment classes and in-service in public and private schools, cultural exchange, international touring, and community outreach, as well as theatre rental space for productions, seminars, solo shows, concerts, recitals, lectures, meetings and more.
