An exciting, educational and entertaining weekday holiday This lively and creative Mommy (or Daddy) and Me performing adventure, which includes story time, theatre games, craft-making, face painting and play building with members of Actors’ Repertory Theatre as everyone enacts a holiday fairytale, legend or folk story together, plus a magical lunchtime meal, has a new theme with every adventure, so families may come once, twice, or as often as they like and always be surprised. “Almost forty years of Santa Monica Playhouse early theatre education experience validates the belief that structured creative activities stimulate cognitive, language, social, emotional and physical skills in the early stages of a child’s development,” says Playhouse Early Education Consultant Rachel Galper. “ENCHANTED LUNCHTIME THEATRE offers youngsters imaginative play that instills a true love of creativity and sharing, and challenges the imagination through self-expression, play and performance. Most important of all, it’s just plain fun!” Directed by gaily costumed Santa Monica Playhouse Theatre Artists, this lively and constructive event offers families the chance to explore imaginary worlds through age-appropriate theatre games, improvisation, handicrafts and performance. Parents work as partners by taking an active role in all aspects of the program as members share in a different story, narrative or fairytale each week, play fun games that develop the imagination, and work with crafts to create props which are used as they act in that week’s fairytale, legend or folk story. Hands-on prop-making and face painting allow children to explore their world through tangible materials they can manipulate, and receive creative fulfillment with instant results. The experience also support parents in their communicative and team-building efforts, while at the same time providing children with the confidence needed to excel in upcoming school programs and giving them a head start on learning, imagining and problem solving. All craft materials plus a magical (and yummy) lunchtime meal are included in the $25.00 ticket price. Parents are free, and participate throughout the journey. Reservations are necessary, and need to be made a minimum of 24 hours in advance. A wonderfully creative way to celebrate the holidays. The program is also available for Birthday Parties and Pre-School field trips. |
