Classroom &
After-School A series of once-a-week classes brings Santa Monica Playhouse educators to your school to share theatre arts as a means to help students build self-esteem and social consciousness, and to help them excel in performance skills, and also such study and life skills as teamwork, problem-solving, decision making, leadership, communication, negotiation, cooperation, research, language arts and meta-cognition. Students learn to use the creative process as a tool in their studies, as well as to help them face the challenges of daily living. |
|
Curricula-Based Santa Monica Playhouse educators partner with a classroom teacher to develop and teach classes that use theatre arts skills as a foundation for research, reading, discussion and study. Students explore an area or field of interest that supports a particular portion of their curriculum. Past projects have included English (The Great Horn Spoon, the short stories of Sholom Aleichem, the world of Mark Twain, Shakespeare), Geography (U.S., European, world), History (The Gold Rush, World War II, Russia in the late 1800s) and Contemporary Issues (the environment, global warming, the homeless, peer pressure, cheating, bullies, school). |
