A world premiere ShortBurst® Theatre production crafted by community members in collaboration with members of Theatre R.A.W.
A wedding. Hearts pounding. Temples throbbing. Tears flowing. Mouth dry. Breath coming in great gulps, toes and fingers numb…
The loving couple, taking their first giant step on their journey through life?
Or the guests, forced to interact with unwelcome relatives, obliged to put on the compulsory happy face while jealousy, envy and self-loathing bubble within, urged to approve of a match made in some eyes much less in heaven than in hell? Join the members of Theatre R.A.W. as they navigate through the social constraints of this most stressful of special events, asking such burning questions as, “Why was the bride’s ex-husband invited?” “Why is the Maid of Honor in such a terrible mood?” “What is the secret the other bride’s therapist is about to reveal?” And perhaps most important of all, who will catch the bouquet?
Crafted and performed by Smita Bagla, Victoria Bemis, Marty Cohen, Caitlin Crowley, Christie Evans, Lisa Fridman, Linda Kohn, Veronica Thompson, Addie Walsh, Theda Weston and Playhouse Associate Director of Adult Education Berkeley Sanjay. Written by Evelyn Rudie, directed by Playhouse Co-Artistic Director Chris DeCarlo.
ShortBurst Theatre® is a collaboration in which professional artists, tyro performers and members of the community at large pool their resources, their time, and their concerns, to create theatre that is relevant on a personal, local and global level, and do it all in a very short span of time, hence the name.
Over the past 36 years, ShortBurst Theatre® has created 50+ collaborative productions locally, nationally and with companies from 11 countries, many that have later become main stage and touring productions, fostering cultural exchange and understanding and making a tangible difference across the city and around the world. “The performances and collaborations are excellent and very educative. Their work is brilliant!” Fusami Sugimine, Director Global Project, International Human Network, Japan.
Masking is no longer required but still encouraged.
