The unique approach of Actors’ Workshop allows beginners through professionals from all walks of life to explore and expand personal boundaries, discover how to make powerful choices, rediscover creativity and authenticity, conquer the critic within and bridge the gap between the text and the inner artist’s voice. Students put their skills into practice through the live performance of a play (not a showcase) in each session, members hone their skills in class, working with text, scene work, improvisation, physical theatre exercises, and character development, and then discover just how effective they are in performance of a ShortBurst® play they help to create. Interested in learning more about the Actors' Workshop and how to participate in the next ShortBurst® Theatre production?
Created by Playhouse Co-Artistic Directors Chris DeCarlo and Evelyn Rudie as a tool for international theatrical and cultural exchange, ShortBurst® Theatre allows non-performers through professionals to address issues of concern and discover their artist's voice, combining movement, speech, performance art, text, ensemble work, improvisation, research and writing to create intense original productions performed for the public, with the goal of fostering a sense of community, gaining a deeper understanding of the similarities and differences in our shared and diverse traditions and cultures, and providing audiences and participants with dynamic tools to make a difference in their lives and the health and well-being of their community.
