How do we know if we are truly awake? Aware? A woke? When the horse wears blinders, does he think to himself, “I wonder what’s out there?” Or do the blinders prevent him from considering that there could be anything else out there except what he sees?
Yin and Yang, proprietors of the Awakening Couples Institute for over twenty years, do their best to help their clients find new ways of dealing with the big and little blinders of their lives. Lovers whose secrets set them at cross purposes; siblings who have never seen each other as they really are; grandpa and granddaughter dancing the challenging dance of acceptance; roommates one hundred and eighty degrees out of phase; friends whose existence is threatened by the presence of the Toilet Paper Man… And do Yin and Yang wear blinders of their own? What will it take for them, and their couples, to experience the full 360 degrees of life?
You probably won’t find the answers to these questions in When Will I Awaken? but you’ll certainly enjoy watching the struggle in this delightfully ironic, bitingly witty dramedy, crafted and performed by Marco Aponte, Michael Atkins, Victoria Bemis, Marty Cohen, Analu Cruz, Jazmin Dant, Anne Easton, Bob Hucul, Vania Ivena, Linda Kohn, Cairo Lawrence, David Martin, Theda Weston.
Written by Playhouse Playwright-in-Residence Evelyn Rudie and helmed by Co-Artistic Director Chris DeCarlo, When Will I Awaken? is crafted via the acclaimed ShortBurst® Theatre method, a collaboration in which professional artists, tyro performers and members of the community at large pool their resources, their time, and their concerns, to create theatre that is relevant on a personal, local and global level.
